Judging for 2007 TCCE scholarships complete… The Tucson Chamber’s Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment (TCCE) is pleased to announce the six recipients of its 2007 scholarships: Hannah Goodman, Academy of Tucson High School; Kyle Estep, Santa Rita High School; Sultana Pecherskaya, Rincon High School; Jacob M. Schmidt, Tucson High Magnet School; Alyssa Gallion, Santa Rita High School; and Laura P. Gamez, Sunnyside High School. These Pima County high school seniors will be attending either the University of Arizona and/or Pima Community College. Many thanks to our judges: Lyn Olson, Pima Community College; Thom Redicks, Tutor Links; Mike Zakis, Higher Vistas Leadership Development; Donal Drayne, The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa; Del Arvayo, CitiGroup; and Vaughn Croft, The Office of the Pima County School Superintendent. Plan to join us in congratulating these young people at a reception at the Chamber on Thursday, May 10 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

International business representatives arriving from the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM)… The Business Development Division is coordinating an “International Business Partnering” between Tucson and Guadalajara. On May 14 and 15, a wide variety of businesses from Guadalajara will be visiting Tucson, including electronics firms, law offices, water treatment facilities, manufacturing facilities, printing facilities, personnel outsourcing companies, construction products firms, film and video production companies and even chocolate manufacturers! Chamber members have begun to request one-hour time slots with many of these incoming businesses. Contact Cheryll Frazier (792-2250 ext. 133 or cfrazier@tucsonchamber.org) for additional information and/or if you would like to participate or host a group of business representatives from May 14 - 15.

Mark your calendars… The 2007 State of Education Luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3. The funds generated at the Luncheon go directly to the scholarship fund. The TCCE scholarships are vital education incentives which further encourage academic excellence in our Tucson community. They enable our stellar Pima County High School students to remain in southern Arizona, promoting the continued retention of the future leaders of our community.
