TCCE scholarships awarded… The Chamber’s Foundation, the Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment, awarded its scholarships two weeks ago to six very deserving students. They are Hannah Goodman, Academy of Tucson; Laura Gamez, Sunnyside High School; Alyssa Gallion, Santa Rita High School; Jacob Schmidt, Tucson High Magnet School; Sultana Pecherskaya, Rincon High School; and Kyle Estep, Santa Rita High School. Our sincere thanks go out to Wells Fargo, Raytheon, Citi and Bank of the West for sponsoring this event.

Tucson Chamber hosts AMCHAM… The American Chamber of Commerce, Guadalajara Delegation, met with members of the Tucson Chamber from May 13-15. An informal business dinner was coordinated by the Chamber, with the assistance of Tomas Leon, President of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Felipe Garcia, VP of Community Affairs for the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau; the dinner took place at Firecracker Bistro where Bob McMahon dropped by to visit with the delegation. Participating businesses/organizations included Competitive Engineering, Bank of the West, Wells Fargo Bank, UBS, Sabino Electric, Command Center, Chase Diversified Human Resources, Snell & Wilmer, University of Arizona Science & Tech Park and Puerto Nuevo.

Meeting between China Chamber and Tucson Chamber… David Chen, President of the China Chamber of International Commerce (headquartered in Beijing), will meet with the Chamber’s Business Development staff early next week. Also scheduled to attend the meeting is John Grabo, director of marketing and international programs at the University of Arizona. Mr. Chen’s overall goal is to begin discussions on the topic of international economic trade cooperation between the China Chamber and the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber. Mr. Chen works out of the Los Angeles office of the China Chamber of International Commerce and represents more than 100,000 members in mainland China. Additional meetings have been coordinated with the following business members: Eric Robbins and Dr. William Xia – Free Trade Auctions; Luis Verduzco – Freescale Semiconductor; Justin Walenta – Bank of the West; and John Brown - C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc.
