TMCC Chamber News

The Chamber is  "a Twitter!"

It has been an exciting month around the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce with the launch of our Social Media Marketing Campaign. Now Chamber members and the business community can follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Myspace to receive important updates from our staff. This is just one more way that your Chamber is staying the leader of Tucson’s business community.

Your impressions of these sites may be that they are used exclusively by teens and younger adults who are revealing trivial information not directly related to your business goals. I know that was my first take on social media. We at the Chamber have come to realize that the vast majority of individuals using these tools are doing so to grow their business, provoke conversation of important issues and to help establish a brand for their services in a very timely manner. The fastest growing demographic is the age group of 35 years of age and older with over 50% of users logging at least once every day. Fairly impressive for something that started in a dorm room at Harvard University as way to keep in contact with college friends.

The two primary goals of any social media marketing campaign are to start a conversation and to build a community. Over the past few weeks the Chamber has done just that, by using these sites to drive traffic to our website, a call to action on Election Day by encouraging the use of our Voter’s Guide, and to inform the business community of upcoming Chamber events. Already, this has proven to be successful for us. We’ve recruited numerous new members and informed all of you of our positions on the City propositions and the PAC endorsed candidates for City Council. This has enabled each and every business owner, employee and community member to know the pro-business positions. With the New Year quickly approaching, we will be using these same outlets to inform viewers of all of our spring events.

These sites are a resource of dynamic content where our Members can turn to find helpful information on how to grow their businesses and real-time information on issues affecting them. Going forward with this Campaign we will use these social media sites to provide you with updates on local government issues and legislative bills as they happen. This will be a unique tool to aide in keeping our members involved and informed on pertinent information from our Government Affairs, Business Development, Bottom-Line Benefits and Special Events Departments.

We feel this will be a great new tool for our members and an opportunity to promote the amazing things we are working on at the Chamber. Members are welcomed and encouraged to submit content and let us know of upcoming events or issues that pertain to your business. If you are currently using any of these sites please become a supporter of the Chamber and if you have yet to do so, please click on any of our links to our social media sites to view them and get signed up.

For those of you, who want more information; please attend our Social Media Workshop on November 17th and the upcoming December Good Morning Tucson to learn how to implement these tools into your businesses marketing campaigns so we can continue to grow together!
