City moves to 5-day trash collection schedule
Beginning Monday, Nov. 10, The City of Tucson Environmental Services Department will change from a six-day trash and recycling collection schedule to a five-day week, a change that will affect a little more than half of all residential and commercial customers which have have plastic collection containers.
Saturday collection will be eliminated except on weeks that a holiday falls on a regular work day. All collections that week will be pushed back one day. The move was made to increase efficience and customer service for the department, according to a press release.

Barrio Brewing makes statewide deal with Golden Eagle
Barr5io Brewing Co., owned by Tucsonsns Dennis and Tawna Arnold out of a location on East 16th Street, has reached a distributorship agreement with Golden Eagle Distributors of Tucson, allowing for the microbrewery's beer creations to be offered all across the state.
Barrio Brewery will see four of its brews served in restaurants and bars statewide, signifiying the first step otuside of the brew pub and the city of Tucson. Tucson Blonde, Red Cat Amber, Taylor Jayne's Raspberry Ale and Copperhead Pale Ale are part of the agreement.

AFB: Grocery cart 5.6% more expensive in 3Q
The Arizona Farm Bureau's quarterly survey of retail prices of 16 basic grocery items showed an increase in price of 5.6 percent in their quarter compared to the previous quarter and a jump fo 15 percent over the same period one year ago.
The "grocery cart" of items cost $57.46 this quarter in Arizona, while the national average was $48.68, up 4 percent from the second quarter according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. The largest retail price increases in Arizona were tacked on a five-pound bag of Russet potatoes (up $1.24) and a pound of cheddar cheese (up 80 cents), while eggs showed the largest decrease in price (74 cents).

TIA recycling programs expands to public terminal
The Tucson International Airport, which has had a recycling program in place ssince 1991, is now expanding it to include 11 public collection sites inside the terminal for newspapers, plastic beverate containers, cans and bottles for airport visitors.

Freedom RV is stepping out and giving its support for its workforce in the face of current economic conditions by promising three months of paychecks for its employees, based on a monthly salary average from January through September 2008. This guarantee is in effect through December.
Lodge & Associates to offer seminar for non-profits
Harry S. Lodge and Associates is offering a free 90-minute seminar to help non-profits learn new federal regulations that go into effect January 12.
The seminar is meant for 403 (b) non-profits who will be dealing with very different compliance rules imposed by the Internal Revenue Service.

Art Institutes offering $20k culinary scholarship
The Art Institutes, with a campus in Tucson, and its International Culinary Schools, is presenting a contest to award a $20,000 tuition scholarship to one of the culinary schools as part of "The Chef Jeff Project" on Food Network.
The competition is open to U.S. residents 17 years of age or older, and applicants must submit an essay of no more than 2,500 characters answering the question, "How would a culinary degree from The International Culinar5y Schools at the Art Institutes help you build a better future?" Chef Jeff Henderson, host of "The Chef Jeff Project" Sunday nights on Food Network, will help select the winning entry.
