Education (B)
Staff: Lizet Torres
Chairman: Vaughn Croft
The focus of the Education Committee is providing workforce development programs and activities by bringing business people into the classroom where they can provide information on basic work skills, soft skills, interview and resume’ skills, and the world of work in general and by working to direct government to enact positive legislation and regulations impacting education.
The TMCC Speakers Bureau--A group of successful business people who can offer professional guidance to students who are the future workforce of our community. Guest speakers are volunteers from our Education Committee who visit local Tucson schools to engage students in workforce subjects such as basic job and career skills and business life. The visits are coordinated by the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. If your school is interested in requesting a speaker, fill out the online Speakers Bureau Request Form and Lizet Torres will respond to you and arrange the speaker.
The Scholarship Selection Team--This group serves as judges for the annual scholarship award program. Six scholarships to public high school students, two scholarships to public school teachers, two scholarships to private school students and two scholarships to private school teachers are given out each year from the Tucson Center for Cultural Enrichment. Candidates are evaluated and the winners are chosen by members of this committee.
JTED Assistance--This new effort to assist the JTED Advisory Board consists of providing insight and input into the BMAS (Business Management Administration Services) segment of the Joint Technology Education District training curriculum. By providing job shadowing opportunities and internships to the students and technical advice to the instructors, business leaders who are members of this committee help to prepare students as they pursue technical careers.
