Chairman’s Corner A few words from Gary Clark, Chairman of the TMCC Board of Directors Build the Downtown hotel! At the June 21st TMCC Board of Directors meeting, the members of the board voted unanimously to support the construction of the 525 room, 4-star, Sheraton Tucson Convention Headquarters Hotel. At the same time, the board voted to urge the Tucson City Council to work with, and mitigate all issues with, HSL Properties to develop a remodeled Hotel Arizona into a Doubletree hotel, with an adjacent new Embassy Suites hotel. Tucson Chamber Board supports the proposed Rosemont Copper Mine The Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce supports economic development and job growth in the Tucson region. In that spirit, the Chamber supports the proposed Rosemont Mine. This multi-million national corporation based in Tucson just moved its general headquarters to downtown. SME Toolkit Workshop Held on June 10th at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel, this special workshop was presented to the business community to help them succeed in their business. The online tool covers issues such as business plans, checklists, and forms. The workshop was presented by the Tucson Chamber in conjunction with IBM. Over 100 people attended! Legislative Wrap Up Luncheon On July 17th, Governor Jan Brewer and members of the Southern Arizona legislature arrived at Hilton El Conquistador to give constituents a report on the past legislative session. Prior to the luncheon, a special private reception was held with Governor Brewer. Over 200 were in attendance at the event. Special thanks to COX and Southwest Gas for their support.
