Inside the Chamber
Early in the year the retirement of former Chamber CEO Jack Camper gave the board of directors of the Tucson Metro Chamber the opportunity to recruit new people with new ideas. The board asked new President and CEO Mike Varney to bring more than a decade of successful chamber of commerce leadership to Tucson from Las Vegas. No community can ever be stronger than the people who lead it. That's why I am very pleased that the Tucson Metro Chamber and Greater Tucson Leadership (GTL) have forged a new partnership going into 2012. Partnering with the Chamber increases GTL's ability to market and communicate its leadership program under the administrative umbrella of the Chamber’s operations. Read more here. Holidays at the Chamber
The Chamber invited our local military branches to decorate the holiday trees located thoughout the building. Thank you to Mikie Hoeye of the Army National Guard, Capt. Conklin of the U.W. Marine Corps, Chief Kennedy with the U.S. Navy, Karl Meger, Heike Smith of DMAFB and Maj. Johnson of the 162nd FW. The trees were beautiful. Gifts collected during the Chamber Holiday Toy Drive were given to "Bravely Waiting" to be shared with children whose parent(s) was deployed over the holiday season. The Military Affairs Committee celebrated the holidays with a special visit from Santa, who took time out from a day at the golf course. Tucson Metro Chamber staff participated in the El Rio Foundation’s Annual “Adopt–A–Family program to raise money to provide much needed warm clothes, household items and toys for a local grandmother who recently lost her son and is raising his young children. It was a memorable and rewarding experience for all of us. Safety Corner

Sprains (stretched or torn ligaments) and strains (stretched or pulled tendons or muscles) account for 40 percent of cases requiring days away from work. Click here for more.
