The University of Arizona College of Science has an established national and international reputation as a trailblazer and leader in scientific fields including astronomy, ecology, evolutionary biology, geology, hydrology and tree-ring research. Combine this renown with the biodiversity of the magnificent Sonoran Desert and that positions Tucson as a “Science City.” Until now, an untapped economic development opportunity.
The region’s scientific and business communities are currently collaborating in the UA Science Geotourism Initiative to highlight, Kartchner Caverns State Park, Arizona Sonora Desert Museum along with UA Science: Biosphere 2 and UA Science: Mt.Lemmon SkyCenter. For the benefit of visitors and residents alike, Geotourism attractions are being collectively promoted to appeal to the general public, as well as to academic and broad scientific audiences.
